Following the tragic loss of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, actress Aubrey Plaza has released a statement expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support. Baena's death, confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, was ruled a suicide. He was 47 years old.

In a joint statement with the Baena/Stern family, Plaza described the situation as an "unimaginable tragedy" and requested privacy during this difficult period. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call near Baena's residence on January 3rd, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

While a comprehensive report from the medical examiner is pending, the news has sent shockwaves through the entertainment community. Baena and Plaza, who met in 2011, maintained a largely private relationship. The exact date of their marriage remains unclear, though Plaza publicly acknowledged their marital status in a 2021 Instagram post.

Plaza was notably absent from the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, despite being scheduled to present. Director Brady Corbet, accepting his award for "The Brutalist," offered a heartfelt tribute to Baena, expressing his condolences to Plaza and Baena's family.

Born and raised in Miami, Baena honed his filmmaking skills at New York University before embarking on his career in Los Angeles. His directorial debut, the 2014 film "Life After Beth," featured Plaza in a starring role. He went on to direct several other notable films, including "The Little Hours," "Horse Girl," and "Joshy."
