AXPC Advocates for Pro-Energy Policies to Unleash American Energy Production Under Trump Administration

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

The American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC), a prominent trade group representing independent oil and natural gas companies, has formally communicated with three key Trump administration departments – the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Interior (DOI), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – outlining specific policy recommendations to bolster American energy production. These recommendations aim to fulfill President Trump's vision of "unleashing American energy."

In their letter to the DOE, AXPC urges the resumption of timely approvals for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, emphasizing the role of U.S. LNG in global stability and emissions reduction. They argue that the current permitting pause is counterproductive and advocate for a well-reasoned public interest study. Further recommendations to the DOE include promoting U.S. energy exports, ensuring fair access to export authorizations, providing certainty for energy infrastructure projects, and enhancing energy reliability through advanced natural gas storage.

AXPC's communication with the DOI highlights recommendations centered around responsible onshore oil and natural gas exploration and development. Specifically, they call for revoking the BLM’s Conservation & Landscape Health Rule, streamlining drilling permit processes, aligning resource management plans with western states’ priorities, and permitting the commingling of oil and gas production for enhanced efficiency and environmental protection.

The letter to the EPA focuses on policy adjustments that support responsible oil and natural gas production. Key recommendations include revising source performance standards to accommodate alternative technologies and approaches, reforming the Clean Water Act, and modifying Greenhouse Gas reporting regulations.

AXPC CEO Anne Bradbury emphasized the importance of American energy leadership for global strength, safety, and environmental well-being. She expressed the organization's commitment to collaborating with the Trump administration to achieve energy dominance and provide affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy to Americans.

Trump's nominees across these three departments have indicated their intention to implement policies that significantly increase oil and gas production while streamlining regulations. DOI secretary nominee Doug Burgum, during his confirmation hearing, stressed that restricting American energy production merely shifts production to less environmentally conscious nations, while hindering domestic economic growth. He affirmed President Trump's commitment to energy dominance while simultaneously upholding environmental protection.
