President Biden's campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) jointly raised an impressive $72 million during the second quarter of 2024, exceeding the fundraising efforts of their Republican counterparts. This substantial sum underscores the strong support for the Biden-Harris agenda, which focuses on strengthening democracy, expanding freedoms, and fostering economic growth for the middle class.
Campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez highlighted the enthusiasm surrounding President Biden and Vice President Harris' vision, contrasting it with the Republican primary race, which she characterized as divisive and focused on extreme positions. She emphasized the grassroots nature of their support, with over 394,000 donors contributing more than 670,000 times, including a significant portion of first-time donors. The combined cash on hand for the Biden campaign and the DNC now totals $77 million.

In comparison, former President Trump's joint fundraising committee reported raising $35 million during the same period, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' campaign announced $20 million in the six weeks following his campaign launch. DNC Chair Jaime Harrison pointed out the financial strain on the leading GOP contenders, attributing it to their "extreme and unpopular agenda." He argued this financial disadvantage will leave the eventual Republican nominee ill-equipped to compete with the Biden campaign's robust operation.

The Biden campaign's fundraising success builds upon the momentum of the 2020 election cycle, during which they raised over $1 billion. This strong financial foundation positions them well for the upcoming election, enabling strategic resource allocation and effective campaigning.
