With Deshaun Watson's contract restructured and his return to Cleveland for the 2025 season confirmed, the question of who will start at quarterback for the Browns remains. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport suggests the team may hold a veteran competition for the QB1 spot.

Two potential candidates mentioned by Rapoport are Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins. Rodgers' future with the New York Jets is uncertain and may be linked to wide receiver Garrett Wilson's decision to stay or leave the team. Wilson's potential departure could be influenced by Rodgers' return to the Jets in 2025. Rodgers' tenure with the Jets has been marked by instability, despite recording 3,511 passing yards and 24 touchdowns this season.

Cousins' situation with the Atlanta Falcons also seems tenuous after being replaced by Michael Penix Jr. following a close win against the Las Vegas Raiders. Cousins struggled with a series of interceptions and a lack of touchdown passes in recent games.

In addition to these veteran options, the Browns, currently holding a high draft pick for 2025, could also explore drafting a rookie quarterback.
