In a tragic incident on Friday, Orlando police officers fatally shot a woman who charged at them wielding two knives. The confrontation occurred at an apartment complex in Lake Nona after the woman's boyfriend contacted 911, reporting her suicidal threats and possession of a knife.

Upon arrival, officers trained in crisis intervention attempted to de-escalate the situation by communicating with the distressed woman. A crisis negotiator also spoke with her over the phone. However, the situation escalated when the woman briefly exited the apartment with a knife before returning inside. Moments later, she emerged again, this time armed with two knives, and charged towards the officers. The officers, feeling threatened, then discharged their firearms, resulting in the woman's death at the scene.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is also conducting an independent inquiry. Body camera footage from the officers will be publicly released within 30 days. The woman's identity has not yet been disclosed by authorities or her family.
