On Wednesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) apprehended over 100 individuals who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally and trespassed onto private property. According to DPS Lt. Chris Olivarez, the migrants, a mix of families and single adults from Venezuela, crossed the Rio Grande River, disregarding warnings from law enforcement to stay back.
Over 40 single adults within the group were arrested for criminal trespass after refusing to return to Mexico. The remaining individuals, comprising approximately 66 family units, were handed over to U.S. Border Patrol for processing. As a response to the incident, razor wire is being installed along the perimeter of the affected private property.
This event follows a recent incident where ten unaccompanied Honduran children were discovered abandoned near the border in Eagle Pass amid dangerously high temperatures. They were found by the DPS Safety Brush Team at the edge of the Rio Grande.
