Recent polls reveal a mixed bag of public sentiment regarding President-elect Donald Trump's second term. While a majority express hope about his re-election, opinions are split on his cabinet nominees and overall transition process.
A Fox News poll conducted in early December found that 54% of voters feel hopeful about Trump's return to the White House. However, the same poll showed a near-even divide on the president-elect's cabinet choices, with 47% approving and 50% disapproving. This division also extended to billionaire Elon Musk's role as a close advisor to Trump during the transition.

Other polls offer further insight into public perception. A CNN poll indicated that 54% of Americans anticipate Trump performing well in his second term, and 55% approve of his handling of the transition. While these numbers are higher than during his first transition eight years prior, they remain lower than those of other recent presidents.
A Marist Poll revealed similar findings, with 47% approving of Trump's transition management, 39% disapproving, and 14% undecided. This poll highlighted a stark partisan divide, with strong approval among Republicans and disapproval among Democrats. Independents were more split, leaning slightly towards disapproval.

Marist Institute for Public Opinion Director Lee Miringoff noted the partisan gap and the cautious stance of independent voters. He also pointed out that fewer voters approve of this transition compared to those of Biden or Obama at similar stages.
As these polls were released, Trump's cabinet nominees continued their meetings with senators in preparation for confirmation hearings. While Trump has moved quickly in announcing his selections, the transition has encountered challenges, including the withdrawal of his initial attorney general nominee.

Following his recent international trip, including a meeting with world leaders in Paris, President-elect Trump is preparing for his inauguration on January 20th.
