Schiff highlighted his role in leading the first impeachment trial of former President Trump, emphasizing the bipartisan support for the vote to remove him from office. He expressed pride in his actions and affirmed he would take the same steps again if circumstances demanded it.

The Congressman linked his past investigations to the events of January 6th, suggesting that his warnings about the former president's actions went unheeded, ultimately culminating in the attack on the Capitol. He directly addressed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other Republicans, labeling them as proponents of 'the Big Lie' and asserting his pride in opposing them.

This censure vote marks the second attempt by Republicans to formally reprimand Schiff. An earlier effort failed due to the inclusion of a $16 million fine, which led to opposition from some Republicans and Democrats. Representative Anna Paulina Luna, who spearheaded the censure effort, has revised the measure to remove the fine.
