Travis Barker's Fear of Flying Heightened After Recent Plane Crashes

Created: JANUARY 15, 2025

Over 16 years after surviving a near-fatal plane crash, musician Travis Barker continues to grapple with his fear of flying. The trauma stems from a 2008 incident where a private Learjet carrying him and collaborator Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein crashed in South Carolina, leaving them the sole survivors among six passengers. Barker sustained severe burns and underwent extensive medical treatment, including multiple surgeries and skin grafts. While he eventually flew again in 2021, recent plane crashes have intensified his anxieties.

Barker revealed his apprehension about flying to New Orleans for the Super Bowl weekend, where he hosted his "Run Travis Run" event and performed at a Super Bowl party. He confessed that recent air disasters, including the midair collision of a US Army helicopter and a commercial airliner, and a medical jet crash in Philadelphia, had deeply affected him, almost deterring him from making the trip. He emphasized the difficulty of flying, doing so without medication, and how witnessing such tragedies brings his deepest fears to life.

He also discussed the joys and rewards of fatherhood, emphasizing the importance of spending time with his children. Barker also touched upon his marriage to Kourtney Kardashian, crediting shared workouts, date nights, and a strong friendship as key elements of their bond.

Barker's "Run Travis Run" event took place in New Orleans, with proceeds benefiting the LAFD Foundation and the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, supporting incarcerated firefighters who battled the recent Los Angeles fires. Barker expressed gratitude for his family's safety during the fires and reiterated his commitment to supporting the victims and the fire department. He also shared his journey into running, inspired by the film "Forrest Gump," and how it became an outlet for meditation, fitness, and maintaining his drumming stamina.
