Incoming White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President-elect Trump's first day in office will include executive orders renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Mount Denali. These actions are part of a larger series of over 200 executive orders planned for his first day, as reported initially by the New York Post and confirmed by Fox News Digital.
The orders aim to change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and restore Mount Denali, North America's highest peak, to its previous name of Mount McKinley. An excerpt of the order obtained by the Post states that "President Trump is bringing common sense to government and renewing the pillars of American Civilization."
The Secretary of the Interior will be directed to implement these name changes on official federal documents and maps. It remains to be seen whether educational institutions will also be required to adopt the new names.

This move is not unprecedented for Trump, who has consistently advocated for renaming Mount Denali back to Mount McKinley, honoring former President William McKinley. During a December rally, Trump praised McKinley as a potentially great president and highlighted his business acumen and prior experience as a governor.

The mountain was renamed Denali by President Obama in 2015, following a request from the Alaska legislature.
Trump's planned 200 executive orders also address immigration and DEI initiatives, reflecting his campaign pledges. Incoming administration officials have emphasized that these actions demonstrate a commitment to fulfilling promises made during the campaign.
