A Buenos Aires amateur soccer player, Williams Alexander Tapón, 24, was discovered deceased near a train station with a gunshot wound to the head. This tragic event followed an incident where Tapón violently assaulted referee Cristian Ariel Paniagua during a match. A video of the assault, showing Tapón punching and kicking the referee, quickly spread across social media. As a result, Tapón was charged with aggravated attempted homicide, a crime that could have resulted in a lengthy prison sentence. While the cause of death hasn't been officially confirmed by authorities, Tapón's widow, Agustina, suggests it was a suicide based on a final audio message he sent her. In the message, he expressed concern for their two young children and a preference for ending his life rather than facing imprisonment. Prior to his death, Tapón had given an interview expressing remorse for the attack, attributing his actions to anger and perceived unfair officiating. Sports security officials were reportedly considering a lifetime ban against Tapón from attending sporting events.
