A wave of vandalism targeting the Atlanta Police Department, including the destruction of eight police motorcycles by fire, has been attributed to a group of "anarchists" opposing the construction of a new public safety training facility. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum addressed the incidents in a press conference alongside Mayor Andre Dickens and ATF Special Agent In Charge Ben Gibbons. Federal agencies, including the ATF and FBI, are assisting in the investigation.

Mayor Dickens revealed that the motorcycle fire, which occurred early Saturday at the current police training center, was ignited using homemade "incendiary devices." An earlier incident that same morning involved vandals smashing windows of police vehicles at a separate location. Authorities suspect the perpetrators intended to set those vehicles ablaze as well but were interrupted. Chief Schierbaum and Mayor Dickens characterized these acts as some of the most substantial assaults on public safety in the city and nation within the past year.
The group's disruptive activities have continued beyond the weekend, with reports of intimidation tactics targeting contractors associated with the training center project. These tactics reportedly include flattening tires, vandalizing a home, and graffiti.
