Former President Biden's decision to pardon his family members shortly before leaving office has sparked strong criticism from House Speaker Mike Johnson. Johnson expressed his disapproval, calling the pardons "shocking" and "disgusting" during a House Republican leadership press conference.
Johnson highlighted the perceived hypocrisy of the situation, noting that prominent Democrats, including Biden himself, had previously condemned the mere suggestion of similar actions by former President Trump. He questioned the necessity of the pardons, suggesting that they raise suspicions about the Biden family's activities. Johnson emphasized that the matter deserves further scrutiny and pledged to investigate.

The pardons, announced by the White House, covered several of Biden's family members. Biden defended his decision, arguing that his family could become targets of politically motivated investigations after his departure from office. He stated that such investigations, even if baseless, can inflict irreparable damage on reputations and finances.

The pardons have drawn widespread condemnation, with critics labeling them as "nonsense" and a "disappointing move." Biden also issued preemptive pardons to other individuals, including Dr. Anthony Fauci and Gen. Mark Milley, as well as individuals connected to the January 6th House select committee investigation. This followed President Trump's pardoning of over 1,500 individuals charged with crimes related to the January 6th Capitol attack.

When questioned about these pardons, Johnson acknowledged President Trump's decision-making authority.
