Comer Rebuts Raskin's Claims of Eroding Legitimacy in Biden Family Business Probe

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Representative James Comer (R-KY), Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, addressed accusations from Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) that the Republican-led investigation into the Biden family's business dealings is damaging the committee's credibility. Raskin's concerns, aired on MSNBC with former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, stemmed from the indictment of a witness in Comer's probe on charges of being an unregistered lobbyist, among other allegations. Raskin expressed worry that the committee's legitimacy was being undermined by Comer's tactics.

Comer countered these claims on "The Ingraham Angle," characterizing Raskin's remarks as "disappointing but not unexpected." He asserted that the committee's investigation relies on concrete evidence, something he believes Raskin and the "liberal media" fail to grasp. Comer pointed to the Biden family's bank records, citing bank violations reported to the Treasury Department by six different institutions. These reports, according to Comer, raised concerns about potential money laundering through shell companies and the receipt of wires from foreign state-owned entities.

Comer challenged Raskin and Psaki to identify any evidence presented by the committee that lacked factual or documentary support. Host Laura Ingraham mentioned the committee's recent transcribed interview with a former FBI supervisory special agent from the Wilmington, DE office. This agent reportedly corroborated key aspects of IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley's testimony to the House Ways & Means Committee. Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH), appearing alongside Comer, framed the situation as a question of credibility: whether to trust the Biden Justice Department or the whistleblowers, whom he described as having "impeccable records." Jordan confirmed that the two whistleblowers are scheduled to testify before the Oversight Committee later in the week.
