Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Music icon Dolly Parton approaches the holidays with a relaxed and joyful spirit, emphasizing family, delicious food, and time-honored traditions. In a recent interview, Parton shared insights into her family's holiday celebrations, revealing a heartwarming blend of indulgence, music, and togetherness.

When it comes to holiday feasting, Parton embraces the philosophy of enjoying the moment without stressing about diets. She cheerfully admits to indulging from Thanksgiving until the New Year, a time when diets are put on hold. "We all start eating around Thanksgiving, and we eat until the first of January… I'm just going to eat everything I want to," she shared. Parton acknowledges the inevitable "stretching out" of clothes during this period of culinary bliss, but she takes it all in stride, knowing that January is the time for a fresh start.

Christmas is a particularly special occasion for Parton, who fully embraces her role as the family's beloved "Granny Claus," "Dolly Claus," or "Gigi Claus," depending on which generation of children is addressing her. This tradition, she explains, has spanned decades, starting with her younger siblings and continuing with their children and grandchildren. A central element of their Christmas celebration is a grand feast prepared by Parton herself, featuring traditional dishes like turkey, ham, black-eyed peas, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw.

Complementing the delicious meal is wine from Parton's own label, which she proudly notes pairs perfectly with the various dishes. Beyond the culinary delights, music plays a vital role in their festivities. Parton and her family gather around the piano to sing classic Christmas carols, creating cherished memories and strengthening their bonds.

Parton's generosity extends beyond her immediate family. She expressed her desire to host the royal family for Thanksgiving at Dollywood, offering them a taste of Southern hospitality and a chance to experience the park's attractions. "I would absolutely love for them to come to Dollywood… The kids could go on all the rides, and we would treat them like royalty!" she exclaimed. She envisioned sharing her homemade mashed potatoes with Kate Middleton and letting the royal family enjoy the Dollywood experience in a relaxed and authentic way.

While a previous scheduling conflict prevented Parton from meeting the Princess of Wales in 2023, her invitation to the royal family for Thanksgiving highlights her warm and welcoming nature. Parton's holiday traditions showcase a genuine appreciation for family, food, and music, creating a festive atmosphere filled with joy and togetherness.
