North Dakota authorities revealed chilling details about the July 14th Fargo shooting, describing a "murderous barrage of fire" unleashed by the gunman, Mohamad Barakat, 37. Barakat was ultimately killed by Officer Zachary Robinson, 31, after fatally shooting Officer Jake Wallin, 23, and critically injuring Officers Andrew Dotas, 28, and Tyler Hawes, 22. A civilian woman was also shot, though the circumstances remain unclear.

Attorney General Drew Wrigley stated that Officer Robinson's use of lethal force was "reasonable, necessary, justified, and lawful" given Barakat's aggressive attack. Wrigley detailed the extent of Barakat's arsenal: 1,800 rounds of ammunition, three long rifles, four handguns, gasoline canisters, a vest packed with loaded magazines, and a live homemade grenade.

Photographs released by authorities showed magazines adorned with American flag stickers. Barakat also possessed a vest designed to hold numerous magazines and a suitcase filled with additional weapons, which he reportedly retrieved from his apartment before the incident.

While Barakat's motive remains unknown, the sheer volume of ammunition suggests he planned further violence, according to Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney. Officer Robinson's bravery was highlighted; he left the cover of his vehicle to engage Barakat, even managing to disable the assailant's rifle, potentially preventing further casualties. Despite being wounded, Barakat continued to resist, brandishing a handgun until Officer Robinson ultimately neutralized the threat.

Following the shooting, the FBI and local law enforcement searched Barakat's apartment, uncovering more firearms. The investigation is ongoing. Officer Robinson has been placed on administrative leave pending a review of his use of force.
