High school football recruiting announcements have evolved over the years, with prospects finding creative ways to reveal their college choices. Recently, four-star wide receiver Ryan Pellum, from Long Beach Millikan High School, unveiled his decision in a particularly memorable fashion.

With USC and Oregon vying for his commitment, Pellum used his young son, dressed in Trojans gear, to announce his intention to join USC in 2024. While USC wasn't initially a top contender for Pellum, a visit from head coach Lincoln Riley significantly altered the landscape.

In an interview with 247 Sports, Pellum explained that initial miscommunication had kept USC lower on his list. However, direct conversations with the coaching staff, emphasizing his importance to their program, quickly changed his perspective. The opportunity to play for Riley and wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons, combined with the advantage of staying close to home, solidified his decision.

Pellum also highlighted USC's potent passing attack and their track record of developing top-tier receivers. He acknowledged the program's reputation as "Wide Receiver University" and expressed excitement about playing alongside a high-caliber quarterback, a position USC consistently maintains. He specifically mentioned the impact of Coach Riley and the program's upward trajectory.

Following an 11-3 season under Riley, and with the return of Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, USC is poised for another strong year. Pellum's addition further strengthens the Trojans' receiving corps as they aim for a College Football Playoff berth.
