Joey Chestnut, a name synonymous with competitive eating, has further solidified his legendary status by claiming his 16th Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest title. On the Fourth of July, Chestnut consumed an impressive 62 hot dogs (and buns) in just 10 minutes at the iconic Coney Island competition. While shy of his world record of 76 set in 2021, the victory adds another accolade to his already illustrious career.

Chestnut's post-victory interview offered a humorous glimpse into the aftermath of such a feat. He candidly described his bloated state and the less-than-glamorous consequences of consuming copious amounts of hot dogs. The competition itself was briefly delayed due to weather, but the enthusiastic crowd, eager to witness the spectacle, refused to disperse. Chestnut, acknowledging the unwavering support, joined forces with the crowd to encourage organizers to proceed with the event.

Not content with his current achievements, Chestnut, who holds an astounding 55 world records, has his sights set on new culinary conquests. He expressed interest in tackling international food challenges, including sushi and Alaskan king crab, and even hinted at a potential partnership with Taco Bell. He also seeks redemption in the buffalo wing eating contest, where he's been bested by Miki Sudo for two consecutive years. Sudo also triumphed in the women's hot dog eating competition earlier that day, consuming 39.5 hot dogs and buns. Chestnut's dominance in the hot dog eating arena has been virtually unchallenged since 2007, with only a single upset loss to Matt Stonie in 2015. He initially took the crown from six-time champion Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi in 2007.
