During President Trump's second inauguration, Fox News Channel drew a substantially larger audience than any other network, solidifying its position as the leading source for inauguration news. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, Fox News captivated an average of 10.3 million viewers, with 2 million falling within the coveted 25-54 age demographic, as reported by Nielsen Media Research. This success extended to FOX Business, which garnered an additional 282,000 viewers, bringing the total Fox News Media viewership to a peak of nearly 11 million.
Other networks trailed significantly behind. ABC secured second place with 4.7 million viewers, followed by NBC with 4.4 million and CBS with 4.1 million. CNN attracted 1.7 million viewers, while MSNBC recorded 848,000 viewers.
Anchored by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, Fox News commanded an impressive 80% share of the cable news audience during the inauguration coverage. This dominance persisted into primetime, with Fox News averaging over six million viewers from 8-11 p.m. ET, including one million in the key demographic. MSNBC and CNN followed with 1.1 million and 1 million total viewers, respectively. However, CNN slightly surpassed MSNBC in the key demographic with 269,000 viewers compared to MSNBC's 93,000.
Fox News Digital platforms also experienced a surge in engagement. The day following the 2024 election marked the highest point for media initiates and minutes spent, a record that held until the inauguration. FOX News Go saw substantial increases compared to the 2021 inauguration: total view time rose by 83%, media initiates by 72%, and unique viewing devices by 35%.
Furthermore, Fox News Media dominated social media interaction, garnering 8.8 million interactions across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter), according to Emplifi. On YouTube, Fox News reigned supreme as the top news brand, outperforming NBC News with 142% more video views.
This inauguration marked a historical moment as Trump became the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland. Due to exceptionally cold weather, the ceremony was held in the Capitol Rotunda, a first since Ronald Reagan's second inauguration 40 years prior.
A subsequent interview with President Trump, conducted by Fox News' Sean Hannity from the Oval Office, aired on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.
