Irish jockey Michael O'Sullivan has tragically passed away at the age of 24, following a fall from his horse at Thurles Racecourse on February 6th. The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) confirmed the news in a recent press release, expressing their deep sorrow at the loss of such a promising young talent.

O'Sullivan, remembered for his exceptional talent and amiable personality, made a significant impact on the racing world. IHRB CEO Darragh O’Loughlin paid tribute to the young jockey, emphasizing his popularity and the void his passing will leave within the racing community. O’Loughlin extended condolences to O'Sullivan's parents, Bernadette and William, and his brother, Alan.
In a heartwarming gesture, O'Sullivan's family has chosen to donate his organs, according to IHRB’s chief medical officer, Dr. Jennifer Pugh. Pugh also shared her personal connection with O'Sullivan, highlighting his dedication, modesty, and kind nature throughout his amateur and professional career. She believes his achievements and humility served as an inspiration to many.

The O’Sullivan family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support received and requested privacy during this difficult time.
O'Sullivan turned professional in 2022 and quickly made his mark by winning the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival the following year. He accumulated an impressive 95 victories throughout his career in Ireland and Britain. Renowned trainer Willie Mullins expressed his sadness at the loss, describing O'Sullivan as a natural rider, modest, friendly, and an integral part of his team. Mullins noted O’Sullivan’s deep understanding of horses and racing, emphasizing the significant loss to the Closutton stable and the wider racing community.
