In a terrifying home invasion incident in Stanford, Kentucky, a homeowner confronted an intruder who broke into his house with a chainsaw early Sunday morning. The homeowner, awakened by the sound of shattering glass, fired four shots at the intruder, hitting him three times.

Four people, including a married couple and their two children, were inside the home at the time of the incident. According to Sergeant Michael Mullins of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, the intruder, identified as 44-year-old Richard A. Hamadany, used the chainsaw to smash through a glass back door. Authorities believe the chainsaw wasn't running during the confrontation.

Investigators suspect Hamadany was experiencing a psychotic episode and heard voices, leading him to believe someone needed help inside the residence. There was no evidence of drug or alcohol use. After the incident, Hamadany was transported to a local hospital and later to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
