In a surprising turn of events, Border Patrol agents apprehended a migrant attempting to enter the U.S. via the Colorado River using scuba gear. The individual, identified as a Mexican national, was caught in the Yuma sector on Monday. Images released show the migrant wearing a small oxygen tank over his clothing. Acting Chief Patrol Agent Dustin Caudle confirmed the apprehension and stated the migrant will be returned to Mexico.
This unusual incident coincides with a series of grim discoveries in the Rio Grande River. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials recovered four bodies, including an infant, from the river near Eagle Pass, Texas, over several days. Lt. Chris Olivarez, a DPS spokesperson, reported the recoveries occurred between July 1st and July 3rd. The identities of the deceased are yet to be determined.

On July 1st, Texas DPS's Tactical Marine Unit (TMU), along with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, responded to a report from Border Patrol about a potential infant drowning. During their search, they discovered multiple bodies in the river. Two individuals, a woman and an infant, were unresponsive. Despite CPR efforts, both were later pronounced dead at Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center. Two other individuals found in the river survived and were transferred to Border Patrol custody.
Lt. Olivarez expressed concern that the scuba gear incident undermines DPS's border security efforts. This incident highlights the lengths to which some migrants will go to enter the United States, presenting new challenges for border security personnel.
