Five months after the tragic loss of their son, Ethan, in the University of Idaho murders, Jim and Stacy Chapin experienced a moment of unexpected kindness from country music star Morgan Wallen. Wallen, learning of the family's connection to his music, especially his song "Thought You Should Know," which Ethan had shared with his mother, invited the Chapins to his San Diego concert.

Ethan, along with his girlfriend Xana Kernodle and her roommates Madison Mogen and Kaylee Gonclaves, were tragically killed on November 13th. The song, written by Wallen for his own mother, became deeply meaningful to Stacy after Ethan shared it with her. This poignant connection led to Wallen extending the concert invitation to the family.

The meeting, which included Wallen's mother, was described by Stacy as a "full circle" moment. Wallen performed "Thought You Should Know" and also made a generous donation to "Ethan's Smile," a non-profit organization established by the Chapins to provide scholarships to students from Skagit Valley, Washington attending the University of Idaho.

The Chapins continue to honor Ethan's memory through various initiatives, including a children's book and an apparel line, with proceeds benefiting the foundation. Wallen, too, supports youth through his own foundation, which focuses on providing access to sports and music programs.
