Newly released images from the FBI show Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the New Orleans New Year's Day terror attack, cycling through the French Quarter in October. Investigators believe this may have been a reconnaissance trip prior to the attack, where Jabbar drove a truck into a crowd and fired on police, resulting in 14 deaths and over 30 injuries. Jabbar was killed in the ensuing shootout with officers.
The October images depict Jabbar on a bicycle, possibly wearing Meta smart glasses, which authorities believe he used for streaming and recording. The timing of this potential scouting mission coincided with Halloween, another holiday known for large public gatherings.
The FBI is urging anyone with information about Jabbar or the attack, or anyone present on Bourbon Street during New Year's or in the French Quarter between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on October 31, to contact them at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips, photos, and videos online.

Reports indicate that Jabbar, an Army veteran and former consultant, traveled to Egypt for 110 days in 2023 and visited New Orleans at least twice before the attack, in October and November, potentially using the Meta glasses to record video on Bourbon Street. He rented a Ford F-150 EV in Houston via the Turo app and drove to Louisiana, posting Facebook videos expressing allegiance to ISIS during the trip.

Before the attack, Jabbar allegedly planted two coolers containing IEDs, which failed to detonate. At 3:17 a.m., he bypassed a police vehicle and drove into the crowd. An ISIS flag and three cellphones were found in his truck.
