At the Palm Springs International Film Festival, a visibly moved Nicole Kidman dedicated her International Star Award to her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who passed away in September 2024. Presenting the award to Kidman was fellow actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
Kidman, 57, shared her emotional journey with the audience, revealing that she learned of her mother's passing shortly after arriving at the Venice Film Festival, where she'd won Best Actress for her role in "Babygirl." Unable to dedicate the award at the time due to her grief, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to do so at Palm Springs. Through tears, she acknowledged her parents' unwavering support throughout her career and emphasized her desire to continue working and contributing to the film community.

In Venice, "Babygirl" director Halina Reijn had accepted the award on Kidman's behalf, reading a statement from the actress announcing her mother's passing. Kidman also missed the film's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. She and her sister later publicly thanked those who offered condolences.
Kidman has received critical acclaim for her performance in "Babygirl," an erotic thriller co-starring Antonio Banderas and Harris Dickinson, even earning a Golden Globe nomination. She's currently involved in the second season of Taylor Sheridan's "Lioness" on Paramount+ and is set to star alongside Curtis (who will play her sister) in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series "Scarpetta," based on Patricia Cornwell's novels.
During the "Lioness" premiere, Kidman reflected on her recent career triumphs, expressing a poignant wish for her mother to witness her success. She acknowledged the difficulty of her grief journey but affirmed her resilience.
