Former Arizona Lawmaker Shawnna Bolick Appointed to Maricopa County Board of Supervisors

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Shawnna Bolick, a former Arizona state representative, has been selected to fill a vacancy on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. She will complete the term of Steve Kaiser, who resigned last month to lead a nonprofit policy organization he established. The board selected Bolick from a pool of three candidates nominated by precinct committeemen within the district. All nominees were required to be members of the same political party as the departing supervisor.

Bolick, a Republican, served two terms in the Arizona House of Representatives before launching an unsuccessful campaign for Secretary of State last year. During her time in the legislature, she notably advocated for Congress to overturn Arizona's 2020 presidential election results and award the state's electoral votes to Donald Trump. In early 2021, she introduced legislation aiming to revise Arizona's election laws, granting state lawmakers the authority to reject election outcomes at any point prior to the presidential inauguration. This bill, however, did not advance beyond the committee stage.

Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen expressed confidence in Bolick's appointment, stating, "We believe Ms. Bolick will be an incredible asset to her constituents, Maricopa County, and the state as a whole."
