A New York City Emergency Medical Services worker was hospitalized Wednesday night after being repeatedly stabbed by a patient she was transporting, according to police reports. The incident occurred inside a Mount Sinai Health Systems ambulance on the Upper West Side, near Mount Sinai Hospital, around 9 p.m.
The EMT was attending to an "emotionally disturbed" man following a cardiac arrest call when the attack happened. The patient, identified as 48-year-old Rudy Garcia, allegedly stabbed the EMT multiple times in her arm and leg. Following the assault, the EMT was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Garcia was apprehended by the NYPD and faces charges including three counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The injured EMT's identity has not been publicly released.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault near Mount Sinai Hospital West. Upon arrival, they found the 25-year-old female EMT with multiple stab wounds. The investigation into the attack and its motive is ongoing.

A witness, another EMT who remained anonymous, described the attack to the New York Daily News, claiming the patient "skewered" his colleague, attacking her leg, chest, and arm.
