Ohio Man Accused of Choking Orlando Airport Police Officer Charged with Attempted Murder

An Ohio man is facing serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, after an incident at Orlando International Airport (MCO) on Tuesday. Edward Hariston allegedly placed an Orlando police officer in a chokehold during a chaotic scene at the Spirit Airlines ticket counter.

According to an arrest affidavit, police were called to the airport due to reports of a large, unruly crowd behaving aggressively towards airline staff. Upon arrival, officers found several groups shouting at employees, with some individuals even breaching the area behind the counter.

Hariston is accused of assaulting an airline employee and tampering with a computer keyboard behind the counter. When an officer intervened to prevent further disruption, Hariston allegedly grabbed the officer's arm. A physical altercation ensued, with both the officer and Hariston ending up on the ground. It was during this struggle that Hariston allegedly put the officer in a chokehold, restricting the officer's breathing to the point of near unconsciousness.

Airlines

Reinforcements arrived, allowing the officer to break free. Hariston was subsequently arrested and taken to a hospital for evaluation. He also faces charges of resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, and disorderly conduct.

Spirit Airlines has not yet commented on the incident.
