Early Monday morning in downtown Orlando, a man was fatally shot by police during a drug investigation traffic stop. Police Chief Eric Smith reported that officers initiated the stop after observing drugs in the vehicle. The situation escalated when the man made a sudden movement, which officers perceived as an attempt to reach for a weapon. Although no firearm was recovered at the scene, the man was shot and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Chief Smith confirmed he has reviewed the body camera footage from the involved officer, and the video is expected to be released publicly within 30 days. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's investigation.
