On "The View," Sunny Hostin Suggests Republicans Are "Lowering Their Intellect" to Attract Voters

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

During a recent episode of "The View," co-host Sunny Hostin commented that Republican leaders appear to be "dumbing down" their messaging to appeal to voters lacking critical thinking skills. She expressed disappointment in this perceived strategy, stating, "Shame on them." Fellow co-host Joy Behar joined the conversation, criticizing those within the GOP who, in her view, "enable the stupidity."

Hostin elaborated on her point, saying, "It's disheartening to see seemingly intelligent, educated individuals intentionally simplifying their communication, presumably to connect with those who don't possess the analytical skills necessary to engage with complex issues. These voters aren't questioning the information, examining the sources, or critically evaluating what they're being told." She further argued that this tactic takes advantage of the current state of education and the removal of books from school libraries, suggesting a desire to create a "permanent underclass."

The discussion stemmed from recent remarks by Liz Cheney, who expressed concern about the election of individuals she deemed unqualified for office. Cheney emphasized the importance of electing competent leaders, regardless of party affiliation.

Behar attributed the perceived decline in political discourse to a combination of factors, including a thirst for power and a lack of intellectual rigor. She pointed to historical examples, such as Dan Quayle's vice presidency under George H.W. Bush and Sarah Palin's selection as John McCain's running mate, as instances where political figures prioritized other qualities over intellectual capacity. She placed more blame on those who "enable the stupidity" than on the individuals themselves.

Behar also criticized the influence of money in politics, suggesting it contributes to the prioritization of personal gain over public service. Hostin has previously drawn criticism for controversial comments comparing Republican women to "roaches voting for Raid" and referring to Black Republicans as an "oxymoron."
