A devastating accident in Crete claimed the life of a pregnant high school teacher from Santa Barbara, California. Clara Thomann, 33, tragically fell approximately 164 feet into a gorge near Preveli Monastery in Rethymno on December 23rd. Greek news outlets, including the Greek Reporter and Nea Kriti, reported that Thomann suffered severe head and chest injuries, and tragically, her unborn child also perished in the fall.

Her family made the selfless decision to donate her organs, including her liver, kidney, and corneas, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the profound grief. Chania General Hospital released a statement confirming the organ donation.
