Former President Donald Trump's involvement in the ongoing discussions between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf has taken an interesting turn. Golfer Rory McIlroy recently revealed that Trump, despite hosting LIV tournaments at his properties, actually supports the PGA Tour in the merger talks.
McIlroy shared this insight after playing a round of golf with Trump a few weeks prior. He described their conversation as "really good" and stated that Trump expressed his preference for the PGA Tour's structure over LIV Golf's format. This revelation comes after the PGA Tour enlisted Trump's help to facilitate negotiations with LIV Golf following a standstill in their merger discussions.

This represents a shift in McIlroy's stance, as he had previously stated in 2020 that he would not play golf with Trump again due to disagreements over the former president's leadership. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan recently confirmed that they sought Trump's involvement to benefit the game, the country, and all nations involved.

Adam Scott, a member of the PGA Tour's Player Advisory Board, also attended the meeting with Trump and expressed optimism that Trump's passion for golf could help resolve the situation. Scott highlighted Trump's ownership of golf courses, his relationship with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and his admiration for both the PGA Tour and Tiger Woods as potential assets in the negotiations.
Interestingly, McIlroy had previously suggested in November that a second Trump presidency might smooth the path towards a PGA-LIV agreement.

McIlroy recently participated in a 2-on-2 exhibition match, teaming up with Scottie Scheffler against Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
