AI Brings Back Lennon's Voice for a Final Beatles Song

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Musician Paul McCartney recently revealed the upcoming release of a final Beatles song, made possible through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This technology was employed to isolate John Lennon's vocals from a demo recording, allowing the band to complete and mix the track.

McCartney explained in a BBC Radio interview that the process was similar to the one used by Peter Jackson in the 'Get Back' documentary, which showcased the making of the 'Let It Be' album. AI was utilized to separate Lennon's voice and a piano from a low-quality cassette recording. This same technique was applied to a Lennon demo, enabling the creation of what McCartney calls 'the last Beatles record.' The song is expected to be released later this year.

McCartney described AI as both exciting and concerning, acknowledging its potential while also recognizing the possible risks. He mentioned instances where people have mistakenly identified AI-generated music as genuine Lennon recordings, highlighting the technology's ability to create convincing imitations.

Although the title of the song remains undisclosed, it is speculated to be 'Now And Then,' a Lennon composition from 1978.
