Arizona Good Samaritan Killed After Helping Stranded Motorists

In a tragic incident on Christmas Eve, 53-year-old Paul Clifford was found deceased near a burning vehicle in Arizona. Authorities believe Clifford, known for his helpful nature, was likely assisting individuals who claimed to have car trouble. His family reported him missing after losing contact.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) launched an investigation, leading them to a location near Benson Highway and Country Club Road. With assistance from multiple units, they identified three suspects. A search warrant was executed, and after a brief standoff, the suspects surrendered to authorities.

Elmer Smith (19), Jack Upchurch (40), and Wendy Scott (16) were arrested and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center. They currently face felony charges, with the potential for additional charges as the investigation continues. Clifford's daughter, Sabrina Vining, shared a tribute on a GoFundMe page, describing her father as a “gentle giant” with a “huge, caring heart.”
