Bride Killed on Wedding Night: Driver Receives 25-Year Sentence After Guilty Plea

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Jamie Komoroski, the woman responsible for the tragic death of Samantha Miller on her wedding night, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Komoroski pleaded guilty to felony DUI, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury or death, and reckless homicide, foregoing a jury trial that was scheduled to begin this week.

The devastating incident occurred in April 2023 in Folly Beach, South Carolina. Komoroski, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content over three times the legal limit, collided with a golf cart carrying the newlywed couple. Samantha Miller tragically lost her life, while her husband, Aric Hutchinson, sustained severe injuries including broken legs, facial fractures, and brain trauma.

In a heart-wrenching statement to the court, Hutchinson expressed the profound impact of the loss, questioning, "Do you know what it's like to vow to protect your wife, do nothing for her, and then lose her hours later?" He recounted the final moments with his bride, sharing her wish for the night to last forever, followed by the abrupt and tragic awakening in a hospital bed.

Lisa Miller, Samantha's mother, also addressed the court, vividly describing the pain of losing her daughter and recalling their last dance together at the wedding reception, just hours before the fatal crash.

Expressing remorse, Komoroski accepted responsibility for her actions, stating, "I am truly and deeply sorry. I take full responsibility for my actions. For the rest of my life, I will carry this guilt and take full responsibility." While acknowledging her remorse, Hutchinson emphasized that it wouldn't bring back his wife or erase the pain and suffering caused by the tragic incident.

A partial settlement of $1.3 million was previously reached in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Hutchinson against Komoroski and several establishments she visited prior to the crash. The lawsuit alleged negligence in serving Komoroski alcohol. The bars involved and the rental car company will be responsible for the settlement, which was reportedly less than anticipated due to an ongoing estate dispute between Hutchinson and Miller's mother.
