Following the discovery of a significant crack in a support beam of the Fury 325 roller coaster, Carowinds amusement park has announced plans to replace the damaged component. The crack, spotted by a visitor and subsequently captured in a widely circulated video, prompted the immediate closure of the ride.
The park has confirmed that the manufacturer, Bolliger & Mabillard Consulting Engineers Inc., is currently producing a new support column, with delivery expected next week. After installation, Carowinds will conduct rigorous testing to ensure the coaster's safety and structural integrity. This will include accelerometer tests and 500 full operational cycles, accompanied by continuous inspections.

The individual who initially noticed the crack, Jeremy Wagner, described seeing light through the damaged area, indicating a complete fracture. The Fury 325, known for its impressive height of 325 feet and speeds reaching 95 mph, is a prominent attraction at the park. Carowinds has stated that enhanced inspection procedures, including the use of camera-equipped drones for hard-to-reach areas, will be implemented in the future.

A reopening date for the Fury 325 is yet to be determined. The park aims to complete a final inspection with both the manufacturer and an independent testing firm before resuming operation, prioritizing the safety of all visitors.
