Chicago Shooting Leaves One Dead, Five Injured During 4th of July Gathering

A somber start to the 5th of July unfolded in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood as a celebratory gathering was marred by a devastating shooting. Around 4:45 a.m., gunfire erupted amidst a group of people, leaving one dead and five others wounded.

According to the Chicago Police Department, an unidentified individual opened fire on the crowd, striking five victims. A 35-year-old man suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead after being transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

A 21-year-old male victim was critically injured, sustaining head injuries from a beating. Initially reported as a fatality by police, the victim was later confirmed to be alive but in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.

Three additional victims were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. A 23-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen. A 21-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man, both shot in the leg, are reported to be in stable condition.

A 29-year-old man, shot in the left foot and left leg, was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center and is also in stable condition.

Authorities have not yet apprehended any suspects and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Chicago Police Department.
