These comments stemmed from criticism Cummings received after her appearance on CNN's New Year's Eve special, where she satirized liberal media and the Democratic Party's approach to President Biden and the 2024 election. She even joked about CNN's viewership, comparing it to the size of her stand-up comedy audiences. Cummings clarified that her intention wasn't to attack the left, but rather to call out hypocrisy. She defended her decision not to target Donald Trump in her monologue, explaining that she considered it a "hacky" and predictable approach, especially on CNN.
