Comedian Whitney Cummings Critiques Left's Hypocrisy

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Comedian Whitney Cummings expressed her disillusionment with the political left during a recent episode of her podcast, "Good For You." She criticized what she perceives as increasing hypocrisy and censorship from that side of the political spectrum.

Reflecting on her own political leanings, Cummings stated, "I always considered myself fairly liberal, but I don't believe the Left is as liberal as it once was. It seems to have become the party of censorship." This realization prompted her to speak out against what she sees as problematic within her own political affiliation.

Cummings felt compelled to address these issues, explaining, "It's astonishing that we live in a time where if you're on the left and don't criticize your own party, how much can you truly claim to care about it? I finally reached a breaking point." She likened her past support for the left to "Stockholm Syndrome," and emphasized the importance of critical engagement with one's own political party.

Cummings highlighted what she sees as contradictions within the left's rhetoric, citing examples like "My body, my choice, but you must take this vaccine," and "My body, my choice, pro-choice party, but you don't have a choice in your candidate." She asserted her expertise in identifying hypocrisy, drawing from personal experiences.

These comments stemmed from criticism Cummings received after her appearance on CNN's New Year's Eve special, where she satirized liberal media and the Democratic Party's approach to President Biden and the 2024 election. She even joked about CNN's viewership, comparing it to the size of her stand-up comedy audiences. Cummings clarified that her intention wasn't to attack the left, but rather to call out hypocrisy. She defended her decision not to target Donald Trump in her monologue, explaining that she considered it a "hacky" and predictable approach, especially on CNN.
