Concerns Mount Over Biden's Temper and Fitness for Office as Democrats Express Reservations about Re-election Bid

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

Amidst growing concerns about President Biden's temperament and cognitive abilities, a former Democratic congressman has revealed that several fellow Democrats are privately expressing their desire for Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Former Tennessee Representative Harold Ford Jr. shared these sentiments during an appearance on "The Five," reacting to recent reports highlighting Biden's occasional outbursts of anger and his refusal to acknowledge his granddaughter, Navy Joan Roberts, Hunter Biden's daughter from an extramarital affair.

These concerns are further fueled by reports of Biden's "quick-trigger" temper and his tendency to use profanity towards his staff. An opinion piece in The New York Times also criticized Biden for publicly stating he has six grandchildren, seemingly omitting his seventh grandchild. Furthermore, a contributing writer at The Atlantic, Eliot Cohen, has called for Biden to step aside in the upcoming election, arguing that his age makes him unsuitable for office.

Echoing these concerns, Ford stated he's encountered numerous Democrats who wish Biden wouldn't seek re-election. He cited various reasons, including a perceived decline in Biden's ability to unite people. He also pointed to polling data suggesting a majority of Americans prefer alternatives to a Biden-Trump rematch.

Ford suggested that both Trump and Biden supporters tend to exacerbate each other's negative qualities, which negatively impacts the country as a whole. He also speculated that if Robert F. Kennedy Jr. maintains his current polling performance, it might encourage other candidates to enter the race.

"The Five" co-host Jesse Watters criticized Biden, accusing him of being a "fraud" for behaving differently in public and private. He contrasted Biden with figures like Donald Trump and Greg Gutfeld, whom he described as consistently authentic in their public and private personas. Watters argued that Biden's anger appears to be triggered only when his perceived "fraudulent personality" is challenged, rather than by issues like border security, crime, or inflation.
