Congresswoman Seeks Information on Fort Liberty Connection to Recent Attacks

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, an Air Force veteran, has made a public appeal for information regarding three individuals with potential ties to Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg). She specifically urged anyone who interacted with New Orleans attacker Shamsud-Din Jabbar, Las Vegas bomber Matthew Livelsberger, or individual Ryan Routh, arrested at Trump's Florida golf course, to contact her office. Routh, who allegedly aimed a rifle at then President-elect Trump, reportedly frequented Fort Bragg despite being a civilian. Congresswoman Luna emphasized that whistleblower protection is available for those hesitant to approach their chain of command directly.

The Army confirmed that both Jabbar and Livelsberger were stationed at Fort Liberty, although not concurrently. The connection between the two, who both deployed to Afghanistan in 2009, remains under investigation, with authorities examining whether they served in the same unit or province. Both men used the Turo app to rent the electric pickup trucks involved in their respective attacks.

Livelsberger detonated a Cybertruck filled with explosives near the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas. He left behind a document claiming responsibility and asserting his actions were a "wake-up call," not terrorism. Authorities suggest PTSD and family issues may have contributed to his actions.

Hours before the Las Vegas incident, Jabbar drove a rented Ford EV pickup truck into pedestrians on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Following the crash, he engaged in a shootout with police and was killed. The FBI has designated Jabbar, who pledged allegiance to ISIS, as a domestic terrorist. While authorities are investigating potential links between the New Orleans attack and the Las Vegas explosion, no definitive connection has been established.
