Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove has issued an internal memo assuring FBI employees involved in investigations related to the January 6th events that they will not face repercussions for simply carrying out their duties. This clarification comes amidst an ongoing internal review focusing on potential political bias within the FBI's handling of the investigations.
Bove's memo highlights a disagreement with Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll, alleging Driscoll's refusal to provide information requested by the Trump administration regarding the team leading the January 6th investigation. This lack of cooperation, according to Bove, necessitated a broader directive to identify all agents assigned to January 6th related cases, enabling the Justice Department to pinpoint the core team for review.
Crucially, Bove emphasizes that the review targets only those who acted with partisan motives, disobeyed orders, or misused their authority. He encourages reporting of such behavior and stresses that ethical and compliant employees need not worry.

This internal memo follows a recent lawsuit filed by a group of nine FBI agents seeking to prevent public disclosure of their identities in connection with the January 6th investigations. The agents claim such identification would be unlawful retaliation and a violation of their civil service protections.

The lawsuit also mentions a questionnaire requiring employees to detail their involvement in the January 6th and Mar-a-Lago investigations, adding to the concerns about potential politicization of these probes.

Former President Trump has declined to comment on potential personnel changes within the FBI related to the January 6th investigation, but has expressed his belief that the bureau is "corrupt."
