In a thrilling overtime showdown, the Miami Dolphins edged out the New York Jets 32-26, boosting their playoff prospects. The game-winning play came on the opening drive of overtime when Tua Tagovailoa connected with tight end Jonnu Smith for a 10-yard touchdown.
The contest was a back-and-forth affair throughout. De’Von Achane opened the scoring for Miami with a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Jets responded in the second quarter with a 17-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Davis, taking a 10-9 lead. New York extended their advantage in the third quarter with an Aaron Rodgers 3-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams and a 40-yard field goal by Anders Carlson, entering the final period with a 23-15 lead.
Tagovailoa then orchestrated a crucial 60-yard drive, culminating in a 4-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill. A successful 2-point conversion pass to Jaylen Waddle tied the game. After an exchange of field goals, the game headed into overtime where Miami sealed the victory.
Tagovailoa delivered a strong performance, completing 33 of 47 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns. Hill contributed with 10 receptions for 115 yards, while Waddle added nine catches for 99 yards. On the Jets' side, Rodgers surpassed 300 passing yards for the first time since December 12, 2021. Adams recorded nine catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, and Garrett Wilson tallied 114 receiving yards, highlighted by a 42-yard reception.
This victory marks Miami's fourth win in five games, improving their record to 6-6. With a tight race for the AFC wild-card spots, the Dolphins need to secure at least three victories in their remaining four games to have a shot at the postseason. Their remaining opponents include the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, and Baltimore Ravens, all of whom stand between them and a potential playoff berth.
