Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has selected Attorney General Ashley Moody to replace Senator Marco Rubio, who is expected to be confirmed as Secretary of State in the upcoming Trump administration. DeSantis emphasized Moody's proven track record, stating that he sought someone who had delivered results, not just rhetoric. He praised her commitment to key principles and expressed confidence in her ability to serve Florida effectively in the Senate.

Moody, a close ally of DeSantis, expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to bring the same dedication and energy to her new role as she did as Attorney General. She views public service as a calling and intends to continue working on behalf of Floridians.

Previously, when asked about the possibility of serving in the Senate, Moody had emphasized her focus on her current role as Attorney General, protecting Florida's interests. While Lara Trump had initially been endorsed by several prominent figures, she ultimately withdrew her name from consideration.

Senator Rick Scott welcomed Moody to the Senate, praising her work as Attorney General. DeSantis indicated that he plans to officially appoint Moody on January 20th, following Trump's inauguration. He also expressed his gratitude for Rubio's service and criticized the Biden-Harris administration's foreign policy, anticipating Rubio's success as Secretary of State.
