California Attorney General Rob Bonta has directed Children's Hospital Los Angeles to maintain its services for transgender minors, countermanding President Trump's executive order restricting gender-affirming care for this demographic. Bonta emphasized California's commitment to supporting transgender youth and their right to live authentically.
In a recent letter, Bonta clarified that California law remains unchanged and healthcare providers are legally obligated to provide equal access to services, regardless of the President's executive order. He assured that California will uphold its values and not allow any regression on transgender rights.

Children's Hospital Los Angeles, which boasts one of the country's oldest and largest transyouth programs, had previously announced a pause in initiating new hormone therapies for minors. However, existing patients will continue to receive their ongoing treatment. The hospital's Center for Transyouth Health and Development is dedicated to partnering with youth and their families, contributing to the field through practice, training, and research.
Trump's executive order, issued on January 28th, aims to prevent federal funding from supporting gender transitions for children. The order directs rigorous enforcement of laws that prohibit or restrict these procedures, which the administration deems destructive and life-altering.

Bonta has joined a multi-state lawsuit challenging the executive order and seeking to prevent the freezing of up to $3 trillion in federal funding allocated for services benefiting transgender minors. He previously criticized the Trump administration for jeopardizing the health and well-being of its citizens and creating widespread confusion with the directive. He reiterated his commitment to opposing the administration's agenda, which he believes to be unlawful.

Fox News Digital contacted both Attorney General Bonta's office and Children's Hospital Los Angeles for comment. Bonta's office directed inquiries to his recent letter, while Children's Hospital Los Angeles has not yet responded.
