The New York Giants' disappointing season took another downturn on Thanksgiving, as they became the first NFL team mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Adding to the sting of their 27-20 loss against the Dallas Cowboys, star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence suffered a season-ending dislocated elbow.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed the severity of the injury, describing it as a "long-term" issue, effectively ending Lawrence's 2024 campaign. The visual of Lawrence in a sling post-game underscored the unfortunate news.

Lawrence's promising season concludes with a career-best nine sacks, placing him among the league leaders. After a somewhat underwhelming start to his NFL career following his selection as the 19th overall pick in 2019, Lawrence flourished under Daboll's leadership, earning second-team All-Pro honors in the past two seasons. He even garnered votes for Defensive Player of the Year last season.

The injury bug has plagued the Giants throughout the season. Key players like Kayvon Thibodeaux, Azeez Ojulari, Andrew Thomas, and even backup quarterback Tommy DeVito have all battled injuries. DeVito's forearm injury, sustained in his first start of the season the previous week, sidelined him for the Thanksgiving game.
With their record now at 2-10, the Giants hold the undesirable distinction of possessing the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Lawrence's premature exit from the season marks another setback for a team grappling with adversity.

While Lawrence begins his offseason earlier than anticipated, the rest of the Giants likely share his eagerness for a fresh start in 2025.
