Former Police Officer's Brother Testifies in Casino Heist Trial

Created: JANUARY 01, 2025

Josiah Rogers testified against his brother, former Las Vegas police officer Caleb Rogers, detailing the planning and execution of a casino robbery in November 2021. Initially, Josiah thought the plan was a joke, but it quickly evolved into a serious scheme. Caleb Rogers faces potential life imprisonment if convicted of using his service weapon during the heist.

Josiah, granted immunity for his testimony, described his role as the getaway driver, including scouting escape routes and modifying his truck with a cover. He recounted how they practiced using the cover and the events of the robbery itself, where Caleb emerged from the casino with a bag containing over $73,000. After dividing the money, Josiah returned to their hometown in Ohio.

This robbery was allegedly the first in a series of casino heists committed by Caleb Rogers, culminating in his arrest in February 2022 during an armed robbery at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. The trial also featured testimony from casino employees impacted by the robberies, including a security guard and a cashier who described the lasting emotional toll of the events.

Prosecutors highlighted the consistent methods used in each robbery, including the suspect's clothing, how he handled the cash, and a distinctive limp, which earned him the nickname "Kangaroo Bandit" within the police department. The defense argued that the evidence was too convenient for the police, who had been investigating the earlier robberies unsuccessfully before Caleb Rogers' arrest.

Josiah Rogers revealed that he burned his share of the money after learning of his brother's arrest, expressing the weight of the situation. The testimony highlighted the complex relationship between the two brothers, who were once close but now face a significant rift due to Caleb's alleged actions.
