Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman reached a significant career milestone Sunday night, hitting his 2,000th major league hit. The achievement came during an 11-inning, 6-5 loss against the Houston Astros, with Freeman's family present to witness the moment.

The historic hit, a sharp line drive to right field in the eighth inning, was Freeman's second double of the game and brought Mookie Betts home. This accomplishment places Freeman among an elite group of only 295 players in MLB history to reach this mark.

Freeman expressed the significance of achieving this milestone in front of his loved ones and the supportive Dodgers fans. He acknowledged the bittersweet feeling of reaching such a personal goal during a team loss, but emphasized the joy of sharing the moment with his family.

Earlier this season, Freeman also celebrated his 300th home run, making him one of only 98 players to achieve both 2,000 hits and 300 home runs. He reflected on the hard work and dedication that led to these achievements, acknowledging the sacrifices made by his family, particularly his father.

This milestone hit also marked Freeman's 1,801st game, making him the seventh player to achieve 2,000 hits as a Dodger. In addition to his 306 home runs, Freeman boasts an impressive 441 career doubles, including a league-leading 27 this season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts observed that Freeman had been eager to reach the 2,000-hit mark at home, especially after going hitless in the first two games of the series against Houston. Freeman himself admitted to feeling the pressure and experiencing a slump recently.

However, after his double in the sixth inning, Freeman felt his rhythm returning, ultimately leading to his historic hit in the following at-bat. The 33-year-old Freeman, who spent his first 12 seasons with the Atlanta Braves, expressed the importance of hits and batting average as key indicators of his success and contribution to the team.

Having amassed 1,704 hits during his time with the Braves, Freeman joined the Dodgers as a free agent in 2022. He emphasized his focus on getting on base and contributing to the team's scoring ability.
