In an interview with Fox News, Abdur Rahim-Jabbar, half-brother of the suspected New Year's Day terrorist attacker in New Orleans, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, pointed to radicalization as the driving force behind the tragic event. He stated that while they were raised Muslim, he hadn't observed any prior indications of such tendencies in his half-brother.
Speaking from Beaumont, Texas, where they grew up, Abdur revealed that they are part of a family of five siblings sharing the same father. He explained that while Shamsud-Din had drifted from Islam for a period, he returned to the faith following his most recent divorce.

Abdur described Shamsud-Din's lifelong struggle to find his place, noting his military service as an attempt to gain direction and a stable career path. After his divorces, Shamsud-Din sought guidance, according to his half-brother.

Abdur emphasized that the attack doesn't reflect his brother's true character or the Muslim community. He expressed his condolences for the victims of the attack, which claimed over a dozen lives and left many more injured.
