The Georgetown University community is grieving the loss of their cherished mascot, Jack the Bulldog, who passed away at the young age of four following a short illness. The university announced the news on Monday, expressing their deep sorrow and requesting thoughts and prayers for those who cared for him.
Jack, officially known as John F. Carroll, had been a source of joy for the Georgetown family since 2019. His playful spirit, enthusiasm on the basketball court, and affectionate nature endeared him to students, staff, and fans alike. He captured hearts with his signature high-paws and genuine love for everyone he encountered.

The four-year-old bulldog enjoyed simple pleasures like indulging in blueberries and strawberries and playing with his favorite armadillo toy. Born in Alberta, Canada, on January 24, 2019, Jack became part of the Georgetown community in July 2019, succeeding the previous mascot who retired after a six-year tenure.

As a campus fixture, Jack was a regular sight on daily walks and a welcomed presence at university events. A dedicated group of students and staff, known as the "Jack Crew," ensured his well-being and accompanied him to various activities. Students interested in joining the Jack Crew had to apply before being granted the privilege of walking him.

Jack's legacy follows a long line of bulldogs who have served as Georgetown's mascot since 1962. The university plans to announce the next Jack in the coming weeks.
