Fox News host Sean Hannity strongly condemned the House Republicans' stopgap funding bill on his show "Hannity," characterizing it as a disastrous measure to avert a government shutdown. With the national debt exceeding $36 trillion and a projected $2 trillion deficit looming for 2025, Hannity questioned the rationale behind continuing "business as usual" in Washington.
Hannity expressed concern that the continuing resolution, designed to fund the government through March, would saddle the incoming Trump administration with a significant financial burden, including raising the debt ceiling, which he argued was President Biden's responsibility. He criticized the bill's excessive spending on what he deemed "pet projects," citing examples such as a new bridge in Baltimore, substantial disaster relief funds, and increased farm subsidies.
The Fox News host also pointed to the expansion of the federal bureaucracy through the creation of new offices, the transfer of RFK Stadium ownership to Washington, D.C., and the duty-free importation of clothing and textiles from Haiti while banning lithium batteries from other nations as examples of questionable allocations within the 1,500-page bill.
Furthermore, Hannity criticized the inclusion of a pay raise for members of Congress in the bill, highlighting their limited workdays (approximately 140 per year) and what he perceived as their inadequate performance. He called for a return to "constitutional order" and greater accountability within the government.
